Yoga is one of the most calming, quiet and peaceful activities in which a person can engage. However, the sound of an airplane flying over head or a person screaming down the road can certainly disrupt those feelings of calm. Selecting an appropriate location is important to receiving the full effect of yoga.
One of the best places to start searching for peace is in a yoga class. Yoga classes are generally taught by instructors who are truly dedicated to the discipline. If people begin chatting in the class or cell phones start going off, the instructor is most likely going to ask these individuals to quiet down or to shut off their phones. Having an instructor step in relieves the stress of your having to ask other individuals to be quiet. Of course, ask for recommendations to ensure that the yoga instructor is truly professional and dedicated.
Find a tranquil location outside. In addition to have peace and quiet around you, you will also be entirely surrounded by nature, which many people feel to be quite calming. Head to the beach during the spring or fall when other people will not be there, or go to a secluded-but safe-part of a local park. Be sure to go with a friend and to remain aware of your surroundings for safety purposes. You could also sit in your backyard.
Unplug the laptop and turn off the cell phone for awhile. Find the space in your house where you are most comfortable. That space might be in your bedroom, next to your favorite chair or in the den with your favorite yoga DVD on. Remember that despite cooking, cleaning and getting ready for work in the morning, your home can be a peaceful oasis away from everyone else as well.
One of the previously mentioned ideas was to sit outside in your backyard. You might even want to invite some friends over for a day of peace and relaxation in your gardens.
Imagine the tranquility and spirituality that you will feel while practicing yoga at the bottom of a stunning mountain or near a gently running river. Often times, being in an entirely new landscape allows you to become more in touch with God, nature and the spirits. Furthermore, since you will be on vacation, you will not have to worry about running off to work in a few minutes or getting sleep so that you can wake up early in the morning. The new landscape in which you will be practicing yoga may just give you the extra bursts of energy that you need when you return back to daily life.
Ultimately, everyone has a different peaceful place. For some, listening to birds chirping in the yard might evoke complete and total harmony, while others prefer the utter silence of a sound proof studio. Figure out what it is that brings you peace and relaxation. After that, seek out that space in which to continue your practices of yoga.
